Trauma Informed ADLs

This course addresses activities of daily living (ADL) expectations, strategies, and techniques with a trauma-informed approach. Numerous factors can influence the success of ADLs, including the language used by caregivers, expectations shaped by past experiences, and the disruptive impact of changes in routine. Often, children who have experienced trauma face challenges with initiating tasks, sequencing, sensory sensitivities, and trauma-based responses to these activities.

Tips & Tricks of Handwriting

Many families seek consultation in these areas. While it's a topic frequently addressed in school-based services, the overwhelming caseloads faced by schools often result in limited parent education. Handwriting is typically not covered by insurance for home services, although there are some ways to address it. Parents often feel uncertain about how to practice these skills at home. This course will cover handwriting basics to aid in carryover.

Self-Regulation and Sensory through a Trauma-based Lens

We have multiple sensory systems, each with its own unique function, yet all working together. While common knowledge about sensory processing often focuses on touch/sound sensitivities and fidgets, there's much more to understand. Essentially, all learning occurs through one or more of the sensory systems. When these systems are not functioning properly, it affects our ability to learn, move, communicate, and perform tasks that others may expect us to do. This can lead to significant interpersonal challenges and misconceptions about behavior.
