Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Pediatric occupational therapy uses assessment and intervention to improve and/or maintain children's skillset in a number of areas including; fine motor, visual motor, play, activities of daily living (ADLs), school performance, social-emotional development, movement, and sensory integration.

Benefits of Occupational Therapy
- improving fine motor skills to grasp and release toys, manage clothing and create good handwriting habits.
- hand-eye coordination to improve kids’ play and school skills (catching a ball, hitting a target, copying from a blackboard, etc.)
- learning basic ADLs (such as bathing, dressing, brushing their teeth, healthy sleeping routines, toileting and feeding themselves)
- increasing self-regulation skills and functional communication to build healthy relationships.
- evaluating the need for specialized equipment, such as wheelchairs, splints, bathing equipment, dressing devices, assistive technology or communication aids
- teaching executive functioning strategies to address memory, problem solving, and planning.
- help organize sensory information in a meaningful way to maximize participation in everyday activities.
- works with members of the interdisciplinary team to develop a individualized treatment approach.

Our scope of practice is strongly rooted in Ayres Sensory Integration and trauma-informed care. Self-regulation skills are an important aspect in a child's readiness for learning and applying new skills.
